Salem Auction House is now Salem Art House
If you previously bid with Salem Auction House, much of the process will feel familiar — Salem Auction House is now Salem Art House, and our auctions continue under the new name. If you are new to our auctions, getting started is straightforward.
01
Open the current auction catalogue to view available lots. Each listing includes photographs and available information about the item. Additional information or condition reports may be available upon request.
02
Follow the registration instructions provided with the auction. You may be asked to create an account, verify your identity, or provide payment information before bidding.
03
Before placing a bid, review the terms for that particular auction — buyer’s premium, payment methods, pickup dates, shipping availability, condition, and any taxes or fees. Placing a bid constitutes acceptance of the auction terms.
04
Depending on the auction, bidding may take place online, by absentee bid, or another announced method. Bids are binding — make sure you are comfortable with the item, its condition, the buyer’s premium, and any shipping or pickup requirements.
05
Successful bidders receive an invoice or payment instructions following the auction. The card used to register is generally processed automatically after the auction closes. Property is not released until payment requirements are satisfied.
Pickup information is provided with each auction. Property may be at Salem Art House, an estate, or another location — don’t assume every item is picked up at our downtown location.
Shipping availability varies by item and auction. Some property can be shipped directly; larger, fragile, or specialized items may require professional packing. Review shipping before bidding if you can’t collect in person.
Auction property is generally offered in existing condition. Photographs and descriptions assist bidders but may not identify every flaw or repair. If condition matters, ask questions before bidding.
A buyer’s premium may be added to the winning bid. The applicable premium and any other fees are stated in the terms for each auction. Always review the auction terms before bidding.
